Top 5 Christmas Movies To Watch

A great Christmas movie should get you in the Christmas spirit! Since we all have different traditions and ideas of the all time Christmas movie I will stick with the movies that are actually about Christmas and save the ā€œIs Die Hard a Christmas Film?ā€ discussion/argument for another day!

We are making a list, just like Santa himself, but we are not only checking it twice because, honestly, who only checks a list twice?!

If like me you love a Christmas film at any time of the year feel free to watch these classics right now! What would Christmas be without instant gratification?

In no particular order, although I have to admit number 1 is most definitely my favourite, here is my top 5 picks for Christmas Movies to get you in the festive spirit.

  1. Elf
  2. Miracle on 34th Street
  3. How the Grinch Stole Christmas
  4. Love Actually
  5. Polar Express

1. Elf

Buddy was a baby in an orphanage who stowed away in Santa's sack and ended up at the North Pole. Later, as an adult who happened to be raised by elves, Santa allows him to go to New York City to find his birth father Walter Hobbs, who is onĀ Santa's naughty list, and had no idea that Buddy was even born. Buddy, meanwhile, experiences the delights of New York City (and human culture) as only an elf can. A fabulous film for all the family to watch together and lots of laugh.

2. Miracle on 34th Street

In this Christmas classic, an old man going by the name of Kris Kringle (Edmund Gwenn) fills in for an intoxicated Santa in Macy's annual Thanksgiving Day parade. Kringle proves to be such a hit that he is soon appearing regularly at the chain's main store in midtown Manhattan. When Kringle surprises customers and employees alike by claiming that he really is Santa Claus, it leads to a court case to determine his mental health and, more importantly, his authenticity. Definitely a classic christmas movie must watch.

3. How the Grinch Stole Christmas

In this live-action adaptation of the beloved children's tale by Dr. Seuss, the reclusive green Grinch (Jim Carrey) decides to ruin Christmas for the cheery citizens of Whoville. Reluctantly joined by his hapless dog, Max, the Grinch comes down from his mountaintop home and sneaks into town to swipe everything holiday-related from the Whos. However, the bitter grump finds a hitch in his plans when he encounters the endearing Cindy Lou Who (Taylor Momsen). A must watch and especially if you are a Jim Carrey fan like me. Kids and adults alike will love this movie.

4. Love Actually

Nine intertwined stories examine the complexities of the one emotion that connects us all: love. Among the characters explored are David (Hugh Grant), the handsome newly elected British prime minister who falls for a young junior staffer (Martine McCutcheon), Sarah (Laura Linney), a graphic designer whose devotion to her mentally ill brother complicates her love life, and Harry (Alan Rickman), a married man tempted by his attractive new secretary. This one is a 15 so maybe keep it for Teens and Adults, but definitely a feel good movie with a bit of romance.

5. Polar Express

Tom Hanks and director Robert Zemeckis ("Forrest Gump"; "Cast Away") reunite for "Polar Express," an inspiring adventure based on the beloved children's book by Chris Van Allsburg. When a doubting young boy takes an extraordinary train ride to the North Pole, he embarks on a journey of self-discovery that shows him that the wonder of life never fades for those who believe. An ideal movie to watch with all the family.

I hope this top 5 blog has gave you an ideas of some movies to get you in the festive spirit and help pass a few hours with some family time. I think the list could go on and on but top 5 should get you started!

Happy Holidays!
